The Girl's Descent

Hello. I sit here at 11:02 pm on the eve of what I fear may be my descent into the world of gaming. Yes, gaming. I was a normal 23 year old year, cohabiting with her boyfriend, until I witnessed him playing a free (and at this point in our cash strapped post-grad days this meant a lot) online strategy game with fanciful characters. Well soon enough my overhearing of ‘werewolves, archers, snowmen and mummies’ led to a few observations. I mean, how could I not be curious? So I watched a little, picked up a few ideas and soon enough... wanted to try.
Now, I have my own account. It has taken until now to realize that I am being drawn into a world I have never known, that of the gamer. A world where reality can be whatever one wants, a world where magical creatures exist and a world where you can take on the role of another being. As mage, you cast spells on your enemies as you stalk through the bush. As a tank, you bash head-first into battle attempting to take the damage for, and ultimately protect, your team. Endless gameplay in the dark targeting prey to within range leads to the belief perhaps this is oneself. I am the mage. This is a world only dared entered by a few in our society, a small but tight community. These are the people who undergo a modern spirit quest, in pixels.  Now I begin my own journey down the highway less often travelled by girls and this is my story.
